About Kim Fahlen, LMFT

Licensed Therapist working with clients in Marin County, California
and online for California residents

I'm Kim Fahlen, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with a passion for helping children, teens, and parents navigate life's challenges.

With 30 years of experience as a teacher and therapist, I have worked with families from diverse backgrounds, empowering them to overcome obstacles and strengthen their bonds.

My approach is warm, collaborative, and tailored to meet the unique needs of each family member. Whether you're grappling with school-related stress, family conflicts, or individual struggles, I'm here to provide a safe and supportive space where you can explore your concerns and work towards positive growth and change.

I offer a range of therapy services tailored to meet the needs of children, teens, and families, through various stages of development including:

  • Individual counseling for children and teens

  • Family therapy sessions

  • Parenting support and guidance

  • School consultation and collaboration

  • Academic support plans for mental health issues

  • Play therapy for younger children

  • Teen support groups and workshops

  • Sandtray therapy for all ages

Every child, teen, and family is unique, and I believe in taking a personalized approach to therapy.

Drawing from evidence-based practices such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), play therapy,  sandtray therapy, and family systems theory, and EMDR, I work collaboratively with families to achieve their goals. Through a combination of empathy, creativity, and skill-building, I empower children, teens, and families to overcome challenges and thrive.

By fostering a safe and supportive environment and establishing relationships, I help children, teens, and parents explore their thoughts and feelings, develop healthy coping strategies, and strengthen their relationships. Together, we'll work towards building a happier and more harmonious family dynamic.

My experience working in schools has provided me with valuable insights into the educational system and the pressures students face. Whether it's navigating academic stress, peer relationships, or developmental transitions, I am well-equipped to support children and teens through these challenges. I am also available to collaborate closely with educators and school personnel to ensure continuity of care, and can create support plans for mental health issues to be implemented in schools.

Offering Support for Parents and Families

Parenting can be challenging, and you don't have to navigate it alone.

Whether you're facing behavioral issues, communication breakdowns, or transitions within your family, I'm here to offer guidance and support. Through parent coaching and family therapy, we'll equip you with the tools and strategies you need to create a nurturing and supportive home environment.

Together, we'll identify your strengths, set achievable goals, and develop practical strategies to help you cope with life's challenges. I look forward to partnering with you on your journey towards greater well-being and resilience.
